Goodbye Notion
I used Notion for everything … until I couldn’t find anything anymore.
Self-optimization, habit tracking, personal planner or in my case article database, earnings tracker, and project dashboard. This is what Notion wants to be. Everything inside one single tool.
I tried it and it was cool. Endless possibilities. No more messing around with different apps. All data in Notion. Perfect!
The awakening
One day I questioned my entire setup.
I had created massive dashboards with links between Medium, my blog, my ebooks, app downloads, Google Analytics, earnings, taxes, and more. It took me hours to maintain them every month. But I felt well organized.
However, when you start looking for stuff and you cannot find it, your system is broken. That has happened to me a lot in the past months.
And I also made the mistake to add too much redundancies in my system. In the end I didn’t know what the source of truth was.
Notion tricks you into doing everything with it. And I burned my fingers in the process.
Database and template hell
Icon here, column switch there, set a nice background image, … but why?
