.NET MAUI released as stable … but it absolutely isn’t

Microsoft’s .NET MAUI was released as a stable version just recently. I evaluated the latest version last week and here is my opinion on the state.

Cross-platform is a trending topic nowadays. The promise to write code once and bring it to many devices and systems is not new, but currently, it is much easier than in previous years because there are a lot more approaches available like Flutter, Reactive Native, Electron, Cordova, and many more. They all have their pros and cons and it depends always on the context to decide if a framework is a good fit or not.

What is Microsoft doing?

.NET MAUI (Multi-platform App UI) has been introduced first in May 2020 during the annual Microsoft Build Conference. Two years later, it is announced production-ready by Microsoft at the same event.

Microsoft shifted more to open-source and cross-platform many years ago. Xamarin and .NET Core are examples of that…
