When Developers Are 10x More Productive With AI…
At least that’s what they claim. But are they really? I am not. Are you?
I see a lot of videos on Youtube and read a lot of articles on Medium about developers that claim AI increases their productivity by a lot. Ok “a lot” is the wrong description because 10 times productivity improvement means that they now produce 10 features in the same time that it takes them to produce 1 feature without AI.
And this is utter nonsense!
I tried AIs, I worked with many of them over months. ChatGPT, Bing (which is ChatGPT), Gemini, Notion AI (probably also ChatGPT), GitHub Copilot (yep, you guessed it…) and none of them brought my level even near a 10 times productivity improvement.
What does 10x even mean?
Ok, let’s break this down and assume the 10x claim is reality.
This means that a feature that takes you one full day (8 hours) without AI, is finished in 48 minutes. But those 48 minutes often contain not just writing the code (which AI can), but also sticking to the development process.
